This is a decent netbook for the pricetag, but the speaker sucks in this thing. Even on maximum volume level, its WAY too low. I had a HP Mini before this and the HP had a speaker bar in the center of the screen and keyboard, projecting sound quite nicely. The eMachines speaker is on the bottom of the unit, and its muffeled by your lap or surface that you have it set on. Even when the speaker is exposed, its still too quiet.
I have no other complaints. Decent keyboard and mouse pad. Nice sized screen and picture. Boots up and runs pretty quickly. Its even a little ligher then the HP Mini which is a plus… But the speaker issue is quite a letdown. If you plan on watching stuff like YouTube or listening to music on this netbook then I would suggest getting a good set of earphones because the speaker is awful on this netbook.

I bought this Netbook at a Walmart in Maryland on Dec 19, 2009 a week BEFORE the supposed sale. It was tucked away (almost hidden)in the display case and I had to find a clerk to pull it out for me. I saw the price of $228.00 and quickly had a price scan done. I bought it and took it home. I was pleasantly surprised with the smooth operation right out of the box. This Emachine EM250 is a solid little netbook (it is an Acer AOD250)for a great price. It will handle all the basics without upgrades just fine. I wanted more so I have since upgraded to 2GB ram and a nine cell battery. It has been on two trips cross country and I have watched movies with this thing on all four nonstops. I have received numerous positive comments from fellow travelers who marveled at the picture quality. Three of my coworkers now own one. I am planning to upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium and this machine will be maxed out for a total of $420.00. You can still find them at some Walmarts but you have to really hunt them down. I just bought a second one for my 12 y/o daughter. She loves it too!

I love this netbook so much that I decided to give my very first review here. I purchased the em250 at Walmart for $228. I was not impressed with its performance out of the box mainly because of W7 starter and all the “bloatware” installed. After 3 weeks of trying to speed it up by adding 2GB of ram and uninstalling bloatware I decided to return it to Walmart. I was disappointed to find out that Walmart has a 15 day computer return policy. That is when I researched and decided to format the HD and install W7 Ultimate 32 bit. (Another reviewer mentioned elliptical circles but I have not noticed this on my W7U installation). Alhough this netbook is limited by it’s N270 Atom chip it now is snappy and has unlimited features. Not nearly as quick as my Dell D830 duo dore with W7U but a least twice as fast as the W7 Starter that came with it.
In order to install W7U you will first need to burn 3 DVD Restore Disks from the original HD. I used an external USB DVD burner I purchased and set the bios to boot from the USB DVD burner first. All the drivers are on the W7U disk except for the network controller (wireless card). The Drivers and Applications disk I had created earlier had the missing driver. I just added a 9 cell battery for extended use (6-8 hrs). I would have given it 5 stars if it came with W7 Home Edition installed. This compact netbook now rocks!

love the netbook. everything is good but just giving it 4 stars because it would be better if the battery life would be a little longer but its not a big deal. The other thing i dont like is that the speakers r on the front bottom which i dont like cause it is hard to hear music. $228 at walmart and u can get a $60 warranty.
